CLASSICAL MUSIC GENRES – Vocalise Vocal Music Example

Vocalise, a classical music composition, features a vocalist singing pure vowel sounds in an abstract manner. The piece is often performed by sopranos and mezzo-sopranos to showcase their vocal agility. Vocalise's origins can be traced back to the 18th century Russian composer Alexander Alyabyev. This genre of classical music emphasizes the unique qualities of the human voice over instrumentation. Russian composers like Rachmaninoff and Shostakovich have written notable vocalises that push vocal limits further. Vocalise's abstract nature allows for creative interpretation by both performers and listeners alike, making it timeless.
