Definition - CLASSICAL MUSIC GENRES - Early Music Instruments
The harp, a stringed instrument, was popular in medieval music and early classical genres. The recorder, a woodwind instrument, was used in Renaissance and Baroque music compositions. The lute, a stringed instrument, was a staple in Elizabethan era and Baroque music performances. The crumhorn, a double-reed instrument, was used in medieval and Renaissance period chamber music ensembles. The psaltery, a zither-like instrument, was played in early Christian and Gregorian chant musical settings.
