CLASSICAL MUSIC GENRES – Passacaglia Chord Progression

The passacaglia chord progression is a recurring motif in Baroque music compositions. A series of repetitive harmonies and melodies define the passacaglia structure in classical music. In sonata form, the passacaglia progression often serves as a unifying element across movements. The use of passacaglia chord progressions is particularly characteristic of 17th-century French Baroque composers. This harmonic pattern is frequently employed in fugue and other contrapuntal forms of classical music. The passacaglia progression adds an air of gravity and solemnity to the overall tone of a piece.
