Definition - CARDIOVERSION RECIPIENT - Atrial Fibrillation
Atrial fibrillation is a type of irregular heartbeat that can be life-threatening if untreated. Cardioversion recipients often experience atrial fibrillation due to underlying heart conditions. During cardioversion, electrical shocks are used to restore a normal sinus rhythm. Atrial fibrillation increases the risk of stroke, congestive heart failure, and other complications. After cardioversion, patients may require ongoing anticoagulation therapy to prevent thrombus formation.
